If it's any consolation to all the writers out there, I just received a rejection from a query...that I sent over two years ago.

(the book in question is under contract anyway)

Don't query and wait around. Keep pushing forward, always!

Is getting a response 2 years later common or considered inside the bounds of good querying etiquette? That just seems comically long to expect a querying author to hang on a hope for that length of time. Especially if it were generic auto-form feedback, why bother?

Definitely not common. Usually six months at the longest, MAYBE a year. I've had responses in 10 minutes, too lol (rejection).

We writers always want to be heard, so a response is great.

But, like...after that long? What are the chances the book is still querying at that point?

Whew good okay. Sometimes I feel like I'm alone querying in a vacuum, but dang sending a rejection 2 years later? That's just mean. Glad it's not the norm. I forgot to mention - congrats on having your book under contract!
