If our friendship is dependent on me supporting your business, I don't want it.

Too often people don't want friendship, they just want someone they can use when they feel like it.

I totally get that. On the flip side, it's been tough being part of a non-profit run business (local food store) in my town and having some friends & family never shop there.

That's the other side of the coin. It's one thing to support someone because you genuinely like the product/service. However, I've had people try to befriend me for the sole purpose of me supporting their business. They never want my friendship, just my money.

Or get mad that you don't throw money at every fundraiser their kid has
*No, I don't want a whole crate of oranges
*No, i don't like chocolate, don't want
*No, don't want wrapping paper. It's a wasted resource
*No, i don't want to order a sub from your kid who never bathes or washes his hands

Even friendships have power dynamics. Which sucks of course. Having the self awareness and discipline to keep your boundaries (whatever they are) is definitely difficult. And you wouldn't think it would be that way when we survive and thrive much better cooperatively.
