Have difficulty remembering someone’s name when they introduce themselves to you? You’re likely a visual learner who has trouble with that short burst of auditory info. Trying writing down their name as soon as you can and this will improve your ability to remember!

For me it’s attentional. Processing so much info— emotions, body language, what to say next, noticing their shirt, etc.—the name gets lost in all of the noise in my head. I have a AuDHD child, likely I have ADHD, some ASD traits. Also, I’m a school SLP, enjoying your page here.

What you’re describing as attentional sounds like visual hyper reactivity. If you have trouble filtering out visual info then you look inattentive, really it’s too much attention to visual info making it hard for your brain to share attention with the auditory system.
