America, where mass shooters owning guns is considered a right, while their victims’ healthcare is considered a privilege.
Alyssa Milano @Alyssa_milano
This an important one. 46,000 people are shot to death in America every year. My friend @fredguttenberg knows this all too well. The lies of the gun industry make it harder to address this epidemic of violence that they profit off of. Please listen. #NoRA

There is NO complete information on the health care costs of firearm injuries in the US. National data allow for estimates of the costs of initial hospital treatment and some first-year costs. Less is known about costs the more time passes from the injury. /1

Those who survive firearm injuries may face significant health consequences spanning the life of an individual. These can include physical disabilities, neurological problems, and chronic mental health issues, such as post-traumatic stress disorder. /3

Research indicates that the largest share of the costs of treating firearm injuries may be borne by public payers, particularly Medicaid, the federal-state health financing program that covers over 70 million Americans. Financial insecurity faced by gunshot victims creates additional trauma. /4
