Let's try harder to identify implicit bias and refusal to learn, and truly listen to black voices this #BlackHistoryMonth and all the time. Hopefully over here, no one calls me a "r*ce traitor" with "wh*te guilt" for wanting to do my part.

Seeing this painting full size years ago in an exhibit at the North Carolina Museum of Art brought me to tears. "The Problem We All Live With" depicts 6 year-old Ruby Bridges being escorted to school and was one of many Norman Rockwell images focusing on civil rights. He was an outspoken activist!

The #racetraitor & #whiteguilt BULLSHIT was created in order to maintain #WhiteSupremacy

There is no such thing as a traitor when we’re talking about defending #humanity & all its people.

White guilt is nonsense too. I don’t make moves out of guilt.

I identify as a traitor to racists 🙋‍♀️

Yup, #Gaslighting and #bullying are all they have. They do the same for other issues. Defending #lgbtq causes and straight? "What are you hiding?" "You one of them?" Defending #feminism and #womensheath ? "She's not gonna sleep with you, bro." That's all they have. We must rise above it!

A fun anecdote: I too have been called a “race traitor” on The Bird for my allyship and advocacy. But ironically, what those ignorant racists fail to realize is the same man they’re accusing of being a “race traitor” happens to be a Caucasian-appearing man of mixed race. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I've heard friends in similar situations say people used to make the racist jokes TO THEM once the "darker" people left the room. Then they'd tell the racist, and they'd say, "Well, you aren't REALLY one of them." I'm sorry you have to deal with this!

It just never ceases to amaze me how hollow and empty someone must be on the inside, if their only means to develop an identity is the color of their skin. And it is by choice, unlike for a black person in America who will be reminded of their blackness by countless cuts each day.

This is so true. It's either white people ignore it,. Perpetuate it. Or acct like they are there to "save" black people like some Great white hope. But rarely look at themselves and other white people as the real problem. Acknowledge the reality and have those uncomfortable discussions.

Actually, I'm not any of those. I'd like to suggest another type. I want to learn, to come to a better understanding of people other than myself and to reevaluate my past points of view to become more compassionate. I'm a former republican never trumper who needs to reevaluate a lot.

Indeed.

I fundamentally believe that asking whites like myself about racism is like asking fish about water: we're swimming in it, unaware but utterly dependent.

It's bringing ourselves & others to a "moment of clarity" that truly matters, because once you genuinely SEE it, you can't UNsee it.

This…👇

“Racism isn’t a problem for Black people to solve. Racism is for white people to solve, and the work can happen only when white America faces the truth.”

I like this article a lot. Especially the cartoon referenced. I hadn’t seen it before.
