Those who get past that mindset is because it's not "your" children that were killed. It's "their" children. And that's how they see it. The guns they own and the party they support are still greater than "their" children.
As always, R's only change their mindset when they're personally affected.

My district is consistently blue in Texas. We are gerrymandered out the wazoo in favor of the Republicans, and yet the area that was affected by the last school shooting voted red. How do you get past that mindset? Your children are killed, yet you still vote red?
