I've decided to learn Dutch. Why? Because I love visiting the Netherlands and would like call it my home in the future.

For those who have learned a second language, do you have any tips?

Currently using Memrise to begin my learning.

I remember learning some Dutch on Rosetta Stone some years ago. And then when I tried to use it the waitstaff answered me back in English. English is mandatory in school for them and they like to use it. But good for you because you’ll need it for competency tests if you get to live over there.

I've always believed it to be polite to learn the local language if your somewhere for more than a holiday.

I want to be able to assimilate better and make a friend or two.

Plus, I need to know when they're swearing at me 🤣

Haven't been to Paris in a long time. My wife enjoys French and has learned a few useful bits.

I do recall that some of the French refuse to speak English.

I guess it's only fair as most of the Brits (me include) don't speak French.
