I hate typing "preventative" in my work documents just b/c that's how everyone else where I work uses it. What's wrong with "preventive"? What's w/the extra syllable?

( i think some people have a bias for "more syllables" just feels "smarter/more professional" )

I think it's a combo of "we need words to say more things in less time because BUSINESS" (e.g., "timebox") & "more syllables makes me sound smarter" (e.g., "preventative" vs. "preventive") & "we speak special because look how BUSINESS we are!" (e.g., "solution" as a verb", or "take this offline").

OMG. "Utilize"
They all want utilize everywhere. I tell them no. They want it anyway. I switch it to "use" after most reviews are done and I don't think they will notice.
