The only thing that's going to save us is reforming public education. Every child, in every state, from 5yrs - 16yrs, is mandated by law, to attend school. We have got to change what we teach, how we teach, and who's teaching it.

What sort of change do you propose to those who teach school?

Too many to list, but the basics are:
-Better cultural competency training
-More heavily recruiting from HBCU’s and majority Hispanic serving universities
-making teach for America a 5 yr term instead of 2yr
-figure out how to get rid of bad teachers

Perhaps spend some time in a public school classroom yourself. Teachers are highly educated, but must teach academics + how to be safe from an automatic weapon/sex trafficker/fire/earthquake/tornado, social/emotional health, functional skills, college/career readiness.

Parents are 1st teachers.

I have taught and currently work in a high school and, my mother was a teacher and, my grandmother was a teacher….and my focus in grad school was education policy….but I appreciate the sentiment.

It’s clear your passionate about this but it’s pretty arrogant to assume I don’t have any foundation on which I based this statement….
