My grandparents had been married near 50 years. On the anniversary of my grandfather's death I said to my grandmother, sorry for your loss, and she said to me "I hated that man, glad he's gone." I had no idea.

My uncle told me about the time he took my grandmother to visit my grandfather’s grave. She stood there & said, “Oh Lawrence, you’re finally at rest.” My uncle thought how nice it was because they had had a combative relationship. And then she said, “And it took 6 feet of dirt to put you there.”
