Stillington Hall in Yorkshire was demolished in 1966. I have a reason for the interest in this, due to finding out about a cookery book sale.

A handwritten recipe and household book kept by the Croft family of Stillington Hall, North Yorkshire, from the mid-18th to the mid-19th centuries written in several hands, including French and Indian recipes.

The Crofts were part of the famous wine-shipping dynasty and friends of the novelist Laurence Sterne, who may well have dined off some of the dishes in the book. Sold for £11,938

No less impressive than my Huntroyd Receipts from Huntroyd House. As for the novelist name-drop, that comment is typical of auctioneers gibberish. Are my books really worth that much? They may well be, as it has some Lords and Ladies, calligraphy etc in it. Can't beat Posh.
