I don’t know who needs to hear this today but no matter what they say in a corporation:
WORK IS NOT FAMILY.
WORK IS NOT FAMILY.
WORK IS NOT FAMILY.
WORK IS NOT FAMILY.
WORK IS NOT FAMILY.
WORK IS NOT FAMILY.
WORK IS NOT FAMILY.
WORK IS NOT FAMILY.
WORK IS NOT FAMILY.
WORK IS NOT FAMILY.

The first time I was told this after being invited to a pool party at the publisher's home (which I thought was weird), I just responded "I'm not related to you people," and walked away.
Yes, I am a spot of sunshine on a dull and dreary day. 😁

And, “I’m not related to you,” is going to be a new go to phrase for me. Thanks.

Oh, I got worse as time went on. After someone tried to shame me for never going to the holiday parties, I responded "I have to work with you people. I don't have to socialize with you."
I bring the snark when needed.

Adrian, that is a hilarious response. And yes, this sort of invite would trip all sorts of flags for me. Good for you for maintaining healthy boundaries. Took me a long time to understand businesses that rely on this sort of socializing will value popularity over competency. Toxic situation.

That was when I worked at Disney, in adult trade publishing. I never went to one after work party in the 11 years I was there. Most stressful job I have ever had.
