Am I like the last person to know that Alexandre Dumas, French author of the Three Musketeers and other famous novels, was Black? I watched a history YouTube channel last night and they had a video posted on Black aristocrats in Europe. Learn something new every day! #BlackHistoryMonth #BlackHisto

Well, Alexandre's father was mixed race, product of the rape of a slave. There was no indication in the video who Alexandre's mother was, but given the times it was most likely a Black woman.

As for Josephine, I've never heard that. She was born on St Lucia or Martinique into an a French family that owned a sugar plantation. Unless she was also a product of rape and the slave owner's wife accepted her as her own child, which seems unlikely.

Probably not the last. For some reason it's not discussed much. ????

One the one hand that should be taught. On the other hand, Florida would then ban all his books from schools with alacrity.

The video said that the novels were based on his father's exploits.
