If you overlay these scores with Thomas Pikety's charts on wealth consolidation by the top global 1% in society you get a pretty clear indication of what is driving the pessimism. In a word...Greed.

It'd be interesting to dig into the data of the Figure 1.4 chart because the null-model is relatively flat up to the Great Recession.🧐(The UNDP report doesn't shed much light on Figure 1.4.) Based on the timings, I suspect the Internet, social media and smartphones have been a double-edged sword.😅
