Just finished Descendant (Netflix) and a direct descendant of the Clotilda’s captain gets included on a trip to the site of the wreckage, along with direct descendants of the slaves. This dude is going to sit there and say “I read the captain was really nice to the captives. He treated them well”

I’ve got a group discussion coming up. Can’t wait to watch it.

Powerful film. And so many white people disgustingly convincing themselves they are allies. Paraphrasing…”My great grandpa who sailed the slave ship was less racist than your great grandpa who bought the slave ship. That’s good isn’t it?” Made me want to throw up with the nasty self soothing garbage

Did he let them go free? Because if he didn't, then no, he was not.

Right?! He captained a slave ship in defiance of the law just to prove that they could do it. Brought over about 110 captives, sold them.

I understand the desire for absolution as a descendant but that really was a time to keep his mouth shut.
