I once invited an acquaintance to see the touring production of Jesus Christ Superstar when it came to San Francisco. She told me she didn't see touring productions because "the quality wasn't equivalent to Broadway." We weren't acquaintances for long after that.

I saw #JCSS in Ottawa around 1993.

As I recall, JC was one of the originals (don't quote me but Ted Neely?). Mary could have been the same vintage.

Pilate, however, WAS Denis Freaking DeYoung... from #styx !

Screw Broadway.

Right?! That also sounds amazing. I bet he was fab! Do you mean Herod from the gif? That's my favorite character! In college, my sister was in one of my favorite productions of JCCS ever.
I was rather shocked when she said it because I originally thought she was kidding!

Styx was apparently very big in Ottawa in the 70s. He got an ovation when he came onstage... it was weird!

I don't recall who played Herod.

There are so many good versions of JCSS available. We have one that I think was made by BBC or ITV. Judas' numbers were inspired by Robert Palmer videos.
