I get that "echo" spreads things and "like" doesn't. However, if I enjoy/appreciate something and it's already in my timeline half a dozen times, I'm probably just going to "like" it. Because most of my mutuals have already seen it.

I could be wrong, but I think because when you spout/echo is time-bound, only people who are on the site exactly when you are posting will see it (unless they go to your page). That's one more reason to echo. (But I find it mildly annoying to see the same post echoed a bunch too.)
