As a former religion writer, I've been saying this for a while. The proportion of Americans believing in no God or higher power stayed at roughly 8-10% for 60 years. But then the first people to grow up having always had Falwell/Robertson in the news came of age. Church attendance plunged.

It was ritualistic for our childhood to believe and practice our religion. But, as I got older, I no longer believe or trust the people who are running my religion.
