Yeah, this one didn’t last very long either. I think it lived through the drought and then died off once we got rain again

Yes, but typically found in desert conditions.

There's an indigenous story that the black represents the eyes...

It's the state floral emblem of South Australia.

The really do prefer a mostly dry, arid climate . I remember my grandmother in outback NSW growing them in pots and occasionally seeing them in the wild.
I imagine they would grow well in somewhere like Tucson
