The level of violence being directed at Dr. Peter Hotez by Elon Musk and others on Twitter right now is exactly why we need to pass laws to hold social media companies accountable for the crimes committed on their platforms.

I have been working with internet technologies since it became generally available. Section 230 isn't perfect but is required. If platforms can be sued for content they will just stop letting people post and become traditional publishers. Platforms are already required to remove illegal content.

Yeah it requires enforcement by the government or the platform actually enforcing their own TOS. But holding them responsible on their own with legal consequences will just mean they will just block user content altogether. Bigger companies might be able to handle the burden but smaller players like
