The Florida white woman who shot a Black woman through her door is being charged with 3rd-degree murder (manslaughter; no premeditation or intent), not 2nd-degree murder (no premeditation but intent).

CNN reported it as such. Folks, don't just read the (incorrect) headline. The read the article.

Its good to be clear, but it still seems like a weak charge.

Maybe, giving the prosecutor the benefit of the doubt, they don't believe they can get a Florida jury to convict a white woman who murdered a Black woman on anything stronger?

If you toss in intent for a 2nd-degree murder charge, proving the case gets way harder. It usually comes down to how many shots were fired. 1 or 2 doesn't show intent. Empty a magazine into someone, that's intent. She did the former. Manslaughter carries a sentence up to 15 years in prison in FL.
