Everyone talks about the 'well regulated militia' without actually looking up the Militia Clauses in the Constitution that provides the definition and actually explains what a 'well regulated militia' IS. Its not any one. Its literally like the National Guard. Not joe blow with an AR-15.

We know the purpose of the 2nd Amendment because it's author was not some enigmatic figure who never again put pen to paper. Madison and Hamilton explained the 2nd Amendment (amongst other things) in the Federalist Papers. They wanted to not have a large standing Army. That's it.
