Would you support a nationwide law that bans assault weapons?

As a EU native living in US: Ban all guns w/ selectable ROF and/or >12 shot capacity and/or >0.38 caliber. Ownership permit w/ evaluation & registration contingent on clean rep sheet. Hunting wpn permit contingent on justified reason.

Watch out: this still permits the AR-15 as it comes in magazines with < 12 cartridges and has a caliber of 0.223

AR-15 is not an assault weapon either. It has semi-automatic fire, same as regular handgun. Despite being an icon of gun control argument, AR-15s are not the hill to die on; overall control of firearms is.

A mag fed rifle caliber firearm is an assault weapon, despite what any pedant says. Ar-15s are causing more damage among civilians than any technical assault weapon

I'm sorry, we're on the same side when it comes to weapon control, but.. One can't just make stuff up and expect to be taken seriously.

Out of curiosity, since I looked up hr1808, how does the AR-15 not qualify as an assault rifle? IMHO semi auto rifles are absolutely a hill to die on. It should be an easy win. I know they're rarely used but they're incredibly deadly when they are.

Assault Rifle is fully auto or with selectable ROF. AR-15 is neither. Definition of "Assault Rifle" is too contentious and unclear, I'd avoid it entirely and focus on other, better defined characteristics. Also, "AR" stands for ArmaLite Rifle, not for "Assault Rifle" - common misconception.
