Listen, if the Bible is clear, I don't need you to interpret it for me. And if it's not clear, you're just as likely to be wrong in your interpretation as I am. In summary, I don't need your pontificating or your sermonizing.

Here's how we mess it up. We think if other religions are tolerant of our religion, that's to be expected because we're "right" and are God's favorite. And we don't have to be tolerant of other religions because they're wrong and God hates them.

On occasion, they may insist on continuing down a path that conflicts with your morals, ethics, and values. You can choose to stay and go down with the ship as they continue to shoot holes in the bow and call it loyalty if you want. But there's no shame in choosing another route.

Emotional intelligence is not only revealed by how one handles anger in the moment, but is also revealed in how one handles the cleanup afterward.

Ex pastor, after a knee jerk moment of unnecessary harshness in front of witnesses, realized he'd gone too far. He apologized...ish. Said, "I'm sorry for treating you like family." I think about that a lot. That's all kinds of broken.

The closer I got to the inside circle at my mega model church, the greater the expectation for completely conformity, while the more glaringly obvious the toxicity. They turned cruel, when, in despair, I gave notice, played victim, said the right words in sermons, but no real repentance in person.

Having retired after 30 years in public health, I was convinced the Holy Spirit placed me in me in my church as director of operations for just such a time as this (covid), sure I could guide them to trustworthy sources of information.

Pastor said nope, I was only hired for organizational skills.

The only way to stay in employment at my church and in relationship with my pastors was to hold loyalty to them above all my other values, adopt their shaky ethics/morals and be their flying monkey. They were harsh and petty when I tendered my resignation and left, and haven't spoken to me since.

The successful politician and attorney will choose the option that costs the least penalty/power/prestige/etc., then diligently search their sacred documents for justification and support for that stand while determinedly attacking those who don't agree.

Unfortunately, clergy often does the same.

Previous pastor ALSO liked to cry, "First Amendment" in a persecuted voice.

While ignoring that he was REQUIRING his paid staff & MANIPULATING his congregation to adopt & promote his broken theology at their risk.

Sure, you can sip the cool aid, but you CANNOT require/manipulate me to drink.

Why we need government:

"The Nanny State shouldn't require me to be sensible and protect my employees."

"Because you do that anyway?"

"Nope, I'm not going to, and government can't make me. I pay staff to do whatever I tell them, whatever it may cost them. Because capitalism."

The scariest part? DJT effectively taught unethical politicians to simply deny, without evidence, they lost. And to keep denying until your party members, as an act of faith, must choose to believe. Because unbelief means excoriation, excommunication & isolation.

Mega-model church applauds congregants' deconstruction from small church theology and culture, then stridently preaches against congregants who deconstruct from mega-model pathologies.

I should have seen it for the red flag it was when my ex pastor approached MY HUSBAND (not me) to see if I'd quit my job and come be director of operations. Scheduled me AND my husband for my job interview where he asked me few questions, but preached his vision God had given him for the church.

Sure, I get it. You're working through some things. Deep, dark, putrid, painful things. But I'm not standing downwind. I'm sure not gonna be the receptical for your careless, projectile spew as you offload that poison. And if that pisses you off, welp, I'm outta here. Thoughts and prayers.

From the pulpit, our church encouraged us to find our God given gifts and talents and use them for the glory of the kingdom. However, they were quick to quench that gifting if it ran counter to their culture and interpretations. I spent over 30 years in public health and the church hired me

You may think you know their story, but if you're not a safe harbor & don't hold the brokenness of others gently, then damaged folks watching your harsh ranting on social media won't hand you the shattered pieces of their heart. This is especially true if you're a church leader.

Republican friends, you can say it's a messy mess tryna choose from messy politicians when you vote. I couldn't agree more. But when you excuse such mounting egregious shenanigans you wouldn't tolerate from the other political party, imma snort, and probably out loud.

Merriam-Webster says worry is to move, or progress by unceasing or difficult effort, to subject to persistent or nagging attention

Y'all, that's how you problem-solve. Worry is only a problem if you're banging against an immovable object, but if that object will move, worry at it.

Those evangelical voters still backing Trump after illegal, immoral, unethical scandal after scandal? A whole lot of that is inability to admit they're wrong because they've concluded every thought they think is God's still small voice.

Red flag #6789 : My pastor employer furiously Facebook posting easily debunked statistics "proving" covid was toothless and no more than the flu, then warning his entire staff not to socially post anything re George Floyd, saying, "Remember, you're representing this church."

It couldn't be any more fascinating if we'd purposely designed an experiment where we had a candidate who supports almost none of the traditionally touted political ideals to discover how many of those ideals the electorate would agree to discard before they abandoned the candidate.

The pastor's sermon point, " It's not that we don't believe in science, it's just that science sometimes gets it wrong, then changes its mind.

However the church remains true to our beliefs."

Oh the number of times the church got it egregiously, murderously wrong, yet refused to change its mind.

The absolute lack of self awareness with which my religious community vehemently supports an unborn infant's right to live while at the same time disparaging a medically fragile adult's right to live by agreeing to adopt easy prevention efforts like simple universal masking astounds me

My mega-model church called it "being culturally relevant," but on the regular their approach tipped over into full on cultural wars instead. So, culturally relevant, but ONLY the church approved culture, like football and the marvel universe. But not LGBTQ or covid prevention or healthcare.

Having spent a few unhealthy escapism years in a bottle of alcohol and having spent even more in an evangelical church, lemme assure you, both populations are desperately seeking that elusive delivering euphoria they had that one time and would just love to find it again.
