Rules are "easier" than education, I'm guessing. It's a truism in the US, for sure. The idea of educating ANYONE rather than just making a law, a rule, or just forbidding something, appeals to certain segments. I've had the thought, but then I thought again.

Some of it, I think, is due to housing costs and food costs, none of which are really in the wheelhouse of POTUS, but are controlled by those who are making the money...and a lot of our laws...:/

Being as I am nearly in that cohort, and have been active online for some 30+ years, I agree about the ageism. However, I do wish I could keep my 92 y/o mom-in-law away from the email scammers. She's not a dumb woman, but she has no internet savvy, and she orders every damn pill they advertise.

Have you listened to/read any of Ed Zitron's (copious) posting about AI and the Tech industry? He has a newsletter, but his podcast is worth the listen. Here's a link to his last AI related episode (I hope).

One news story suggested that the smoke was caused by the diesel backup generator kicking on, which returned some control to the helm and allowed the pilot to turn the rudder, but didn't restore full control. Life is random, as we see all the time.

Gardiner was were we got our cat, Oberon (the one I just posted a picture of). When my husband was teaching, we would leave SC to spend the summer break there. I was born in Florida, but I want to spend more time in Maine. One day, maybe. For now, Kansas.

I had a little more time with my dad, but my mom died of a stroke in the living room when I was 16. I was 35 when he passed. We have a summer cabin in Belgrade Lakes in Maine, although we are too far away to go there anymore, and will likely sell it. I love it there.

Thank you. Mine did, too. I'm sorry that you also know how it feels. I never had really gotten over it. I wonder if anyone really ever does. My husband seems to have -- he lost his father while he was in college. But I don't know.

My grandmother had beautiful silver hair with a black streak. She wore it long until her last few years (this was some time ago). I have no idea about my mother, as she dyed her hair (just caught my typo) and she died fairly young. And I cut my waist length hair last year. It's growing back.

I tried to embrace mine, but I'm very much salt and pepper, and I just hate it. So, last summer I died my hair a bright magenta. I've mellowed it down since then, so that the grey won't show up as a line as I grow it out, but I'm thinking about teal for this summer.

I am put in mind of Anne Leckie's Ancillary series, with how she played around with pronouns, and how it messed with me at first. I had to spend some time with my thinking.

Do you think robots will adopt the gender binary common in many cultures, a more diverse gender continuum. or simply opt to create one of their own? Or just drop the whole thing so that sex robots will give humans with bias conniptions?

I hope so. I have loved SF/F since Star Trek TOS and Andre Norton (well, technically, Alexander Key, but that's quibbling) so I'm excited about getting into the conversation. But I'll be a lot older than most of the students, and my brain has problems. So, toss up.

I read less loftily, until I don't. I'm taking a class this summer on SF literature (testing to see if my mental health will hold up to try to return to college, to get the MA I've wanted for far too long, just because.)
