It’s amazing. If the news is hot, they add ice cubes. If the news is cold, they microwave it. If it is lumpy, they whisk it. If it is watery, they add flour.

News should be served as it is. What they are serving is “news product.”

There are so many reasons to hate every second of this clown show.

Chief among them is the fact that some people will see this disfunction, look around and see that the lights are still on and GrubHub still delivers…

…..and make the grave error of thinking this is low-stakes entertainment.

That’s exactly right. No notes.

Slapping one, clear, unambiguous label on something is only wrong/unhelpful when it is inaccurate.

It is 100% accurate here.

That’s a great clip! I watched it when that episode aired and I think you’re spot on. It’s the typical outrage you see from these people. They are rich enough that they can’t be hurt by things like lead in water, etc. Their soft little underbelly is anything that threatens supremacy or offends them.

Every second, the question is posed to societies: “what shall you be like?”

And how we choose to answer or fail to answer that question forms the definition of the society that we will be.

Evil acts lower the value of others. And when one is so disconnected that their idea of self value comes only from the fact that others are demonized, then I don’t think they can see it.

Their “friends”, their living, their world, their identity becomes dependent on them not seeing evil.

Exactly right! She’s counting on people to know what the symbol means.

Irony doesn’t matter anymore, but it’s the absolute pinnacle of it to use a symbol from a book that her very party is seeking to remove from school libraries….in her state….

Pew research polls (all from 2023)

58% support stricter gun laws
61% support keeping abortion legal
60% legal recreational pot
63% view Trump unfavorably
64% favor laws protecting trans discrimination

I don’t buy the tie. If it is true, they should always say “Biden tied with fascist criminal”

Under Musk, Twitter is only causing damage, so this would finally finish it off. Paywall the damn thing and put the spear in twitter’s side once and for all.

I just can’t believe that so many willingly moved over to Twitter alternatives run by Dorsey and Zuckerberg.

Federal funds make up a decent enough chunk of a states budget that it would be painful for everyone at all levels.

But the federal government can only do this program by program depending on compliance with the rules of the program, so it’s unlikely to happen.

And I will say this….whoever is the first to make a small enough form factor / affordable AR glasses is going to win the day. It will revolutionize things, in a very terrible/addictive way.

Because in an increasingly disconnected world, people don’t define themselves by their relationships with others. Whatever self esteem may be lost in an apology is gained back (and then some) via improved relationships. When you don’t have that return, however, it’s seen as a waste.

I think some of this is because people can’t envision a better future, so they cling to the present/past. Put forth a clear idea of what kind of future we are trying to build with progressive ideas. Walkable cities, clean air, better healthcare. Ads that actually show what this might look like.

I don’t think it would have to be troops. States, especially red states, absolutely rely on federal funding. If the federal government cut off funding due to noncompliance with a law, it would be massively painful. Or doing things like moving military bases out of the state.

I think the answer is “resources” and “funding”. If red states (heavily dependent on federal funding) started non complying with the law, the federal government would be able to exert massive pressure on them.

Exactly right. Humans are generally trusting and, unfortunately, overly deferential to those who they “perceive” have wealth and power. Hacking those two aspects with lies is like a superpower - he’ll never give it up.

This is a legal battle, but in a political war. Never forget that he has always appeared ridiculous and bumbling but was able to scheme his way into things he never deserved. They may have decided it was better to go with a judge so they could smear him and wail about being “denied” a jury.

I can see why his legal team would do this intentionally. Financially speaking, a jury might hit him much harder when it comes to damages. Politically speaking, it would let him pretend he was being “denied” a jury and it’s easier to smear a judge than a jury. Lies, of course, but that’s his brand…

I think you’re right to point out that past/present motivation/mindset is the key. It will be different for every person. All I’m saying is that “voting for Trump in 2016 but not 2020 and now being pro Biden” can beg questions, but it shouldn’t invite attack.

The cultivated hatred helps MAGA voters ignore (or adore) the disfunction, but I also don’t think they notice the immediate consequences. GOP has rarely produced results for people…and Dems have had to pass watered down versions of many of their bills. The latter needs to change in 2025.

As with everything, democrats need to sit down and map out immediate/short/long term consequences of all decisions. McCarthy just wants to be speaker and, ironically, the years of laundering for MAGA for his self interest means he can justify anything at this point, even working with Dems.

Amazing, isn’t it? They took a constitution of laws written hundreds of years ago, deified the writers and used behind the scenes influence to appoint 9 unelected people in robes who have supreme power to interpret the words of those “founding gods.”

Religion birthed in the womb of Article III…
