Mom's been gone 32 years.

Today is not my favorite day. My mother passed away when I was 29. Connie passed away seven years ago.
My 97 year old MIL broke her hip 3 days ago.
She did this 8 years ago at our home. Recovered like a youth.
She's had surgery and was at PT when I called.
What a legend.

Tornado warning last night. No power this morning. Went out for lunch and barely got out of the neighborhood.

They got one decent picture of me on my 1st attempt at racing in a few years. It was a 'gravel' race but I was so happy I took my 15 year old MTB race bike. The miles long descents would have been miserable on the rigid gravel rig. It reminded me of a super long XC races from the early 90's.

Throw back to May '85 when I graduated college and came home for a few weeks before heading south to Atlanta.
Lost 2nd gear and when you only have 3, that's a major problem.
No heat in Indiana , no power on S. Indiana hills. Got blown around in the slightest wind.
I loved that thing.

Caught a stomach bug on Monday and struggled to eat until last night.
Now to see if I can get back to normal and keep things near this number I haven't seen in 30 years.

Struggling with life and unexpected issues so posting this pic showing I'm getting Italy fit.
Somehow got down to my fighting weight without really trying.
Now to maintain and ramp up for the Giro d'Italia vacation in 6 weeks.

Bikes are now made of a lot of different materials these days but there's a saying that still holds true. "Steel is real".

I often feel like I'm riding my bike because it's what I do and what would I do without it.
Today brought back the magic. Might have been riding a trail I haven't ridden in decades with a good friend and his 23 year old son who wasn't yet born the last time I rode it.
I needed that.

Raja turns 9 in a couple weeks. Jack is 11ish.
I've never seen them lying together like this. It is more of a Jack thing than a Raja thing. In my experience, it's always been the dog that takes longer to figure it out.

Rode one of the oldest trails I've been riding for 35 years. 1st trail I ever road in NC and one of the 1st official MTB trails in the SE.
Got into the sport on the MTB. Last year was 90+% road. Shameful. 2 hours at pace and I'm wiped. Need more of that.

It's not everyday you have to have the cones moved because they are upgrading the powerline that runs through your property.
Had to do the same when I got home 6 hours later.
Still waiting for the power to be turned back on. They said 8am-630pm.

Was a bit afraid of yesterday's ride. Haven't done a big gravel day in 6 months.
Ended up bigger than I expected. 60/35/5 gravel/road/singletrack. 63 miles, 7200' of elevation and 5:32 ride time.
Stoked to have felt better than expected.
Ride on.
