I have a problem with -anyone- misrepresenting cultures. it's audience pandering. did you know that not a single Ancient Greece movie has one single Greek actor in it? not even one.

but Jonathan, the most popular shows and movies are inspired by European history, mythology and heroes. And then Hollywood turns around and makes everyone and everything look like down town LA. And when we complain, they call us racist.

Game of Thrones = recycled from Europe 😉

iPhones = mostly made in China

US superhero blockbusters = recycled (utterly destroyed) Ancient Greece and Egypt, sometimes Ancient China & Japan, plus old Norse legends & Mythology

US Disney like Snow White = German fairy tale

And so on and so forth

"I fell off (belonging to) the chair?" what in Seven Hells is that.

Britain and the US was complicit in Turkey invading us, you know that, right? Probably not :) Kissinger - CIA funded the Greek Junta dictatorship to overthrow soon-to-be elected as PM, George Papandreou Snr. This led to the invasion. And Britain conspired w/ the Turks to partition CY for 30 years

Best part of Cyprus is under Turkish occupation. They invaded us, for a second time, in 1974. My family home - gone. I'm a refugee in my own country. First time was when we were invaded and enslaved by the Ottomans, slaughtered, tortured. Greece too.

my furniture.. need a lot of money to bring it

not academics - I make websites. Researched - wrote 2 online guides to Santorini. We actually call it Santorini / Σαντορίνη. The name is from Santa Irini from the Venetians who conquered the Cycladic Islands.

chaos is a ladder - sure, Baelish scheming, sure. But Arya falling for it? Nah. There were so many ways they could lead up to Baelish's execution, but Arya travelling all the way to Winterfell to conjure up a murderous hatred, enough to skin Sansa was so... ridiculous.

it's ok. I don't want to be nosey. And yes, Santorini is beautiful, breathtaking - and historic. Did you know the island's official name is Thira? It's from King Thiras, son of Sparta and commander, who sailed there, made his fortress etc etc

Here we disagree. Old hostility was when they were kids. Years passed, they've matured, learned stuff, wisdom for one.. Sansa was hateful as a child but no longer. And Arya, with all the smarts of a street kid decided to threaten Sansa? Nah - it was a forced vehicle "ta taa" - we fooled you.

I (unfortunately) had to move back to Cyprus (my homeland) from Greece. I was living in Santorini for 20 years - miss it every day. My best friend is there, my furniture still there rotting in a basement. What happened when you were in Greece?

well, 13 = too much but 2 shorter end seasons = too little. Important parts skipped over entirely e.g. Prince that was Promised. And, I think D & D became their own worst enemies: feeling they had to create "Big Reveals" e,g, contrived Arya Sansa hostility just to springboard Baelish's execution.

reading now. observation abt guest rights: it's not "Xenia" - it's "Filoxenia" (Φιλοξενία) - a blanket word for hospitality. Filoxenia is 2 joined Greek words: kiss / filo - / φιλώ ( (= αγαπώ, agapo, love) AND xenos / ξένος / stranger.

p.s. I'm Greek

Also re: Sansa's future husband - in my best Viserys voice: "surely Lords Glover, Manderly and to the sellsword Bronn, Lord of Lofty Titles, you are not proposing House Stark ends with Sansa simply because she is a woman?"

had a good giggle at all the times he said "I'm working on" over the years. I mean, how on earth can you write or complete anything as higgledy-piggledy as GOT when you're stretched over a gazillion projects. At some point you stop being an author and become a celebrity project manager.

I view GRRM as a commercial writer: he tried his hand at science fiction. It didn't take off, so he switched to dark ages/medieval England. Tolkien didn't write for money or fame; he was an Oxford don - different world. He wrote LOTR *for* England - to replace the mythology destroyed by the Normans

Sansa needs an heir. But who? Bran's King, Jon's banished, Arya is wherever she is at the edge of the world. Plus, traditionally, an heir takes the father's last name/House. But she has to keep House Stark going. And after Joff/Ramsey, doubt she'd want to marry any man.

only 50? look at us - you happened on my post about 3 Body Problem, and we're still going :) have one more for you: now that Sansa is Queen, who would she marry to keep the Stark line going? Many Houses were wiped out, there aren't any decent marriage candidates, doubt she'd consider a Dornishman.

the book series isn't finished and perhaps will never be finished. I'm not overly impressed with GRRM's writing style but he tells a good story. Tolkien is in a class of his own: scholar, professor, contributed to the Oxford English dictionary, wrote a whole language. There's no comparison

definitely, their choices were good BUT one major mistake, I believe, although Melisandre AND Stannis's whole storyline was around Azor Ahai, Prince that was promised etc. - then Mel realising it was Jon - Dan and Dave skipped over it entirely. It was a central part of the story.
