There is much talk about the right to free speech, but little talk about what the citizen's responsibilities might be. So I asked Bard, Google's GAI about it. Bard says free speech requires the responsibility to be respectful, be truthful, and do no harm to anyone. Bard seems to get it! Spout 2!

Atlantic editor Jeffrey Goldberg in the June 2023 issue: "The war in Ukraine is about much more than Ukraine; it is about the very subjects that animate this magazine: democracy, freedom, justice, humanism," subjects that animate U.S. citizens who care about our country and beyond. Enjoy the 4th!

A message for Republicans--please don't fall on your sword for TFG. Your job is to save the GOP and return it to Lincoln status!

There once was a talker supreme
Who is currently lacking a screen.
By barking and biting
He thought he was fighting
For a role as Russia’s newest spleen.

Have a happy and productive long weekend!

We hear much about freedom of speech these days. Google has a new AI program that is a draft that they want feedback for: bard.google.com So I asked Bard about the citizen responsibilities when exercising free speech. I am impressed!

Reading Tim Wu's book "The Attention Merchant." Wu is a policy advocate and professor at Columbia Law School. In his book, Wu quotes Hitler from "Mein Kampf" when Hitler asks, "To whom has propaganda to appeal? . . .It has to appeal forever and only to the masses."

You have heard of the Justice supreme
The one who makes many of us scream
He took trips on a yacht…
With a rich guy verbot
And lived a life big in false dreams.

If you've been hearing that Ukraine has always been part of Russia and so Russia has the right to take it back, Timothy Snyder, Yale historian, has posted a series of lectures on the Making of Modern Ukraine in his Thinking About . . . Substack column. Fascinating and complicated history.

There once was a man from Houston,
Who often liked to go CanCunin,
He mastered deflection
He won an election
But never dropped any solutions.

April 10, 2023--S. E. Alaska

Clouds billow gray, white
Birthing cold flakes of fine snow
Alaskan springtime.

Writing limericks can be very therapeutic! Forgive me!

There once were three reps from Nashville
Who were never, no, never bashful
When it came to safe kids
They put guns on the skids
Leaving other reps so very wrathful.

And finally. . .
ODE to VP (and I don’t mean the Vice President)
Part 3
News reports that Vlad is in trouble
Surface like cold frozen bubbles
The ICC now speaks
About warrants that reek
Of child deporting amid rubble.

ODE to VP (and I don’t mean the Vice President)
Part 2
A three-day adventure he promised
A claim that proved mostly immodest
He tried threatening some nukes
Sure the free world would puke
Then blaming the West as dishonest.

Trying to find out if Spoutible lends itself to limericks.

ODE to VP (and I don’t mean the Vice President)
Part 1
There once was a short dude named Vlad
Who stole just about all that he had
From the people he ruled
And the oligs who drooled
Then he started a war truly sad.

This profile picture is a metaphor for life. Dropped by a bird from a hanging bird feeder, the seed grew in a large pot of lettuce on our deck. SE Alaska is rain forest country, cool and misty. So imagine our surprise when the plant blossomed into a beautiful sunflower!
