I have some thoughts on battery modding a GBP. Based on the available stuff out there, and the amount of case modification, it isn’t worth it. There’s a lot of component removal too. It’s isn’t like a GBA where drop in solutions exist. Recommend some good rechargable Li batteries. #retrogaming #gbp

Switched my setup to an Extron Crosspoint 128 Matrix switcher. Luckily the seller left all the Phoenix connectors in place. Used db Electronics open source design and had a bunch of RCA adapter PCBs made, grabbed some Digikey RCA connectors and good to go! #retrogaming

So a bunch of Millennial/Gen X nerds went nuts for about 30 mins earlier today trying to order a device that upscales retro gaming consoles. Did I grab one about 1 min before it sold out? You bet I did! #retrogaming #retrotink #RT4K

Really excited for this one. The Retrotink 4K from Mike Chi. For the retro gamers out there, this is going to be a massive upgrade to the already awesome Retrotink 5x Pro.

Two of my latest GBA builds. The purple/clear shell is a complete rebuild using the Funnyplaying Motherboard and the latest IPS display. The blue is my late 90s iMac inspired GBA with ITA display Helder power cleaner/amp upgrade. #retrogaming

There are many options for playing your retro consoles in 2023. Some are CRT purists, and some use upscalers. IMO, there are only 3 available options for the latter that are worth a damn that work for multiple consoles. Retrotink (2x or 5x), OSSC, or GBS-Control (pictured). #retrogaming

Awaiting arrival for this one, and taking on a bigger challenge. Funnyplaying replacement motherboard for the Gameboy Advance. Will have to do some transplant surgery with the CPU and RAM from the donor board. Should be fun! #retrogaming #consolemodding

Took a break from the socials for a few weeks. Happy to say I’ve added a Sega Saturn to the retro collection and added a FRAM mod and Fenrir ODE. Now I can play what I want and won’t have to worry about losing my saves if the battery dies! #retrogaming

This is how insane it is in the bad place right now. Prolific tweeter dril keeps slightly changing his display name so his blue check goes away, and someone at Twitter keeps turning it back on. What a clown show. #dril #thebadplace

Replacing capacitors (aka a “recap”) is retro console repair and modding 101. The two most common types are ceramic and electrolytic capacitors. In most recaps, it is the electrolytic capacitors that are replaced, since these can be prone to leaking over time. #retrogaming #consolemodding

Xstation mod for the PlayStation. Play your classic PS1 games from an SD card. Not overly difficult, but always a bit of a pucker factor when lifting pins from a chip. #retrogaming #consolemodding

The reality of these times keeps hitting me in little waves. It just struck me tonight how people now regularly write “pro-democracy” in their bios. Not many years ago that seemed like a pretty safe assumption about one’s fellow citizens in the U.S.

One of my most fun projects: the NESessity 1.5 by low_budget w/ Tim Worthington’s NES RGB 4.0. A full NES main board and A/V board replacement with RGB mod to boot. And fits right into the stock front loader shell.

Any console modders out there? Here’s one of the easiest ones if you ever want to start. The SNS-101 (aka SNES Jr) RGB mod. Generally considered the best picture you can get out of a Super Nintendo System. This one is cheap, and only requires a bit of soldering.

Catching up since I missed it. On this day in Gaming history 3 April 1982… Atari held National Pac-Man Day to promote the release of the arcade port for the 2600. Pac-Man was a terrible port, and while it boosted initial sales of the console, it contributed to the 1983 industry crash #gaminghistory
