On the one hand, I'm glad to have this (my Kindle edition just arrived), because that means I now have all the Tevis fiction I couldn't get at before. On the other, I'm a little sad, too, because once I read this, there ain't no more.

THE FICTION EDITOR, THE NOVEL AND THE NOVELIST, by Thomas McCormack, was revelatory to me in its discussion of theme, and to a lesser degree the idea that all craft rules are diagnostic.
