Libraries have librarians, and we pretty much live to help you find the books and other resources you need, whether for pleasure, education, work, or any other purpose.

I'm so sorry you went through that, all of it. And it just seems extra nasty thst doing something for your own mental health was exploited by others, to attack someone you didn't want to attack.

We always had a few--and I do mean a few--black kids in school. Latinos & Cambodians arrived in big numbers in the 70s when my youngest sister was in high school. The mix when I was in school was mostly European ethnicities--what WASPs looked down on as "hyphenated Americans."

I learned about him in school. He was held up as a model of what we could achieve, someone to emulate. Harriet Tubman, too. But that was in the 60s, in ethnically mixed classes whose grandparents had faced bigotry that still showed its face sometimes. Not sure it was in our history texts, really.

My grandparents were Sicilians who immigrated here, early in the 20th century. They & others from southern & eastern Europe were called pollution. Our current immigration law is still based on the 1924 act designed to keep people like my grands out. It can happen again. To people like them.

It's really excellent. More than 70 years old, and it's warning against what we're doing to ourselves today. I've only seen a small piece of it before, but the whole thing is powerful.

Exactly what I was taught in Catholic CCD in the early 60s. That the moral sense comes first, & if you don't have it or don't listen to it, the rules will only keep you out of trouble, not make you a person who can disobey authority when authority is wrong.

Of course Twitter is bashing Spoutible for being down for a little while. What else can they do? Be reasonable about the fact that a brand-new platform is having some quite normal growing pains? 😅
