As a writer, words always matter. Makes me wonder if this was by choice or by order. Either way, the story shows us present-day obstacles. Including "says he" may cast doubts on the legitimacy of his claim. But the story wouldn't have changed had it simply said, "Black man who WAS elected..." 🤦🏽♂
