From “Ghost Signs: Clues to Downtown New York’s Past” Frank Mastropolo:
"It was uncovered in 2014 when a laundry's sign was removed. The sign for Samuel Tuck, an importer of embroidery and lace, was painted over by one for Mrs. A. Swinton, a millinery shop in the mid-1860s.”

Operated by Ray Alvarez, who emigrated from Iran to New York in 1964. Mr. Alvarez jumped from an Iranian navy ship, worked under his assumed name, opened his store in 1974 and finally completed the decades long naturalization process in 2011.
