Happened last night:

Me: Hey Siri set an alarm for 6 in the morning.
Siri: Done. By the way ….
Me (much too quickly): Thank you.
Siri: You’re welcome.

No amount of questions would get Siri to finish the “By the way”. I’ve got to stop being so polite to Siri.

I may be going out on a limb here but when it comes to “seen on today’s trail run” stories I’m going to claim the prize.

Freedom. I had a discussion about what Freedom does (and does not) mean in the most unexpected location yesterday – while getting my hair cut.

International Woman’s Day: I’ve known some amazing woman but non more than averagerunnerk (my wife)! It’s important to talk about woman being role models for young girls but let’s not forget the impact of being the same for young boys.

It’s not supposed to be 9°C (48°F) in February in Ottawa. Took to the trails in a t-shirt, map and compass for a trail/orienteering run. Very slippery in spots but my traction aides kept me upright. The sun was nice but I really prefer lots of snow and snowshoes on my feet this time of year. Oh well

Sunny -17°C (1°F) - perfect for a #Snowshoeing #orienteering meet. So important to dress in layers as you quickly start peeling things off as you get into the run.

My snowshoe run quickly became a slow snowshoe hike breaking trail through the woods & on our driveway. Deep & heavy stuff. Not going anywhere in the car until our long driveway is down. #trailrun #snowshoerun

Passed on to my eldest the fountain pen that my father passed on to me back in ‘75 ( high school grad). My son experimented drawing with it then digitized the results with his drawing tablet. I have no idea where these ideas come from!!??

My 18yo is away at Uni and they regularly bring service dogs into the residence. My son loves it and tells how it makes everyone so relaxed and happy! For the first time in so many years my wife and I are dog/cat/horse free. It has advantages but we do miss them.

Sometimes the dog’s mere presence gives us joy & cheers up our being & they don’t limit thselves to this w their simple presence instead they’re willing acquire useful skills putting their lives in danger to save us. There’re animals whose essence is to complete us🦮🩷🐶

When you prepare “Can Cooker” stew then remember the aluminum can will not work on the newish induction stove. BBQ almost out of propane! Plan C - small camping stove on deck followed by wood stove once it is fired up. Better be good!

Apparently it is the 30th anniversary of the ground breaking game DOOM so rather than study for exams my son made a full size poster that includes all the bad guys and all the weapons (some hidden). He claims he was listening to online lectures at the same time!

With the kids at University, Snow Days (school buses cancelled) don’t have the same level of excitement as they used to (and no direct impact on me) but still fun and so beautiful outside!! First of the season.

If Hamas had attacked military & infrastructure then I would be willing to listen to “but…”. There is no “but” in what they have done. As an Army veteran I know civilian casualties are a risk. Here civilians were the target & in the most inhumane and disgusting way possible.

Wife & I did an Adventure race together yesterday. Team name was ‘Still married?’ We can remove the ‘?’ Now. 29km of running, kayaking and mountain biking with lots of navigation thrown in. Realized very quickly that a canoe would have been a far better choice than two cheap kayaks!

Great hike in Yosemite today. 1031m ascent with 24m descent thrown in near the top - up up and up! But the view was worth it. In many ways coming back down was harder given it was much hotter and in the sun much of the time.

For those wondering, this is what the San Francisco Golden Gate Park looks like from an Orienteering perspective. Ran this last week as a lead up to the North American Championships in the Lake Tahoe area. It’s been hot but some fun racing! I’m sitting out the Relay event today (my son is running)

Our son is on the Canadian Orienteering Team so needs to spend hours this morning in quarantine with no electronics w wireless capability prior to his sprint race at the NA Championships. Hell for a teenager. Maybe next time he won’t laugh at my antique iPod Mini!!

While I was volunteering at an Adventure Race, my truly inspiring wife was running the Sulphur Springs 100km trail race (2300m/7500" climb)! I wish I could have been with her (as crew, not running).

18 MTB birthday kms with lots of mud and the usual number of scrapes and bangs. Sad that a few of my fav trails are blocked from the storms last year. Naturally you get half way around a loop to discover this!

Even Blue Jays get that ‘Just Chillin’ mode! Under the bird feeder and likely stuffed, enjoying the sun. Not hurt - flew off immediately after I took this.
