Today, not long before my 52nd birthday, I finally realized/learned that to "don" clothes and to "doff" them means to put them "on" or take them "off."

Contraction of "to do on" or "to do off."

I like etymology, so this makes me happy -- but I'm a bit embarrassed I didn't realize this earlier.
