Wednesday after Wednesday at sewing bee, I sewed blue buttons, and I sewed star buttons… until last Wednesday. The quilt is called “And Justice for All.“ For my fellow number geeks, I wracked my brain, trying to figure out how to fit 52 stars on the blue field of the partial United States flag…

At upper left of this quilt, is a filet crochet panel, featuring the Liberty Bell with dates 1776 - 1918 across the top, and the word “liberty” across the bottom. A white crocheted arrow points to the right, to another, smaller filet crochet panel, with the words “and beyond.” Under the smaller panel, and extending out toward the right a little way, is a United States flag, with truncated stripes. 52 white star-shaped buttons are arranged on the blue area of the flag, in four sets of 13. The stars are arranged like the 13 stars on the Great Seal of the United States, are arranged in a six-pointed star shape, with one star on top, four stars on the next row, three stars in the middle row, four stars in the fourth row, and one star at the bottom. The rows of stars in each 13-star grouping are centered, vertically. Above the two crocheted panels is a row of colorful strips of fabric, in colors of the pride flag, the trans pride flag, the suffrage flag, colors of people, and Kwanzaa colors...

This is a patchwork quilt in fabrics of purple, pink, and gold. The centerpiece is a doily, embellished with gold buttons, and surrounded by laurel leaves, crocheted in metallic gold thread. Above the centerpiece, are the words “you are” created in patchwork. Below the centerpiece, the word “worthy,” likewise in patchwork. The whole thing is bordered with broad piano keys patches, in a random-ish arrangement of the main colors of the quilt.

Couple of Fridays ago, I did a little knitting at Bennu Coffee, while waiting for my daughter who was at a job interview. Bennu has an entire mocha menu. I chose the Don Quixote, made with Mexican cinnamon-y chocolate. I recommend!

Happy Worldwide Knit in Public Day! Since our county is pretty small population-wise, all thread and yarn crafters are invited to join us this morning at Indian Creek Coffee, in Comanche, TX. I’m hoping to get this shawl finished, while we visit and enjoy delicious coffee!❤️🧶☕️

Yay! I started my CKC 10th Anniversary Shawl. It went quickly at first, but now the rows take longer and longer to crochet. It’s frustrating, because I want to see how the color way develops. Today I’ll have more crochet time than usual, waiting for a family member at the dentist’s office.

The first 30 or so rows of a triangular, crocheted shawl begin with dark teal at the point, graduating through lighter shades of teal, to pale gray, and to darker shades of gray. The lacy-patterned crochet lies on a weathered wooden deck. The tip of the shawl points toward the bottom of the photo. One edge of the shawl lines up with the boards of the deck. The effect is that the dark spaces between the grayish boards look like slanting black lines.

Our Lace Cactus is blooming. It came from the land we live on. There are still a lot of Lace Cacti growing in the wild, but I am almost never around when they bloom.

A few cylindrical, horizontally-ribbed cactus stems have nodes of thorns growing evenly-spaced along their ribs. Each node is a white oval shape, and the white thorns radiate from each node, like a little spider with way too many legs. One of the stems is topped with a pink flower with raggedy-looking petals. The pink has a purplish cast, and the raggedy petals form an almost cup shape. The flower center is thick with yellow stamens with pollen-bearing anthers.

My friend Sherry said there was an estate sale with doilies. I don’t need any more doilies, so I said, “Where is this estate sale, exactly?“ While shopping, I snapped a pic of this tea towel. It’s amazing how much work someone put into making a tea towel beautiful.

Both ends of a white tea towel, have a deep crocheted trim with a zigzag edge, sewn to narrow strip of the tea towel fabric. A crocheted insertion, with a similar pattern to the trim, is sewn on one side to the narrow strip, and on the other side to the body of the tea towel. A red background under one side of the crocheted trim highlights its lacy nature. The other end of the tea towel is folded over, so both crocheted trims and insertions are visible.

Finished this quilt top yesterday, and started prep for quilting this morning. I got distracted by choosing a binding fabric. “Self,“ I said, “quilt first, worry about binding later.“ After listening to my own advice, we now have the label sewn on the backing, ready to pin into a quilt sandwich.

A quilt top features extravagant cut-out flowers and house prints appliquéd to rolling, green hills. From the lower edge of this scene, and working to the top, there are large cut-out flowers and a row of five relatively large Lino-cut houses in pink and blue. Next, a row of medium-sized cut-out flowers and 38 colorful houses. These houses look like traditional patchwork schoolhouses with three windows, and two chimneys. The third range of hills begins with the smallest cut out flowers. Cityscapes and the smallest buildings are seen among the hills. At the top of the scene, a pale blue sky is apparently cloudy. surrounde with a narrow strip of jade green fabric. A 4-inch border of floral fabric completes the quilt top. The final border is the same fabric, which the cut-out flowers came from.

On #NationalBookDay , I’m celebrating crafty novels. ❤️ My friend Julie found a knitting mystery by Maggie Sefton at the Desdemona, TX, community garage sale. I don’t need any more books, so naturally I sorted thru all of them and found 3 more fiber mysteries. My favorite title is Dyer Consequences.

Moving along on my random color-change cardigan. The sleeves are done and sewn together, and the body is joined and all on one circular needle. I tried it on, and it fits fine. #knitting #TopDownCardigan #SeedStitch #RandomColorChange
