I’m pretty sure the boiling hot rage I feel about the internet bullying that beautiful soul librarian out of his job is going to be my super villain origin story. I can’t stop thinking about how he just wanted to share reading and acceptance with kids and they chased him out of his life.

There is no good time to get Covid, but having it this week while the city has been largely shut down for snow has made it pretty easy to just relax and stay in bed. Feeling better already.

Shane MacGowan lived a life, that’s for sure. I know it became almost a thing to realize he was still with us, it just kind of seemed as if he always would be. And I say that in a very different tone than I say the same about the other guy who just died.

I will admit that even though I still think the Pandamania is a little much, I was a little sad to wake up to the news that the pandas were leaving town today. I kept the news on all the way to wheels up.

Because I absolutely cannot focus on the horrors going on in the real world today I am distracting myself with the fact that I can’t handle Bailey and Claudia potentially being a couple in a Hallmark movie. Please tell me this is not happening. Do not try to tell me that these people are fictional.

This never ending notification badge is killing my brain. I’ve deleted the app, deleted all notifications, reinstalled the app, disabled ALL notifications, restarted my phone, and even gotten a new phone (unrelated) and nevertheless, it persists.

I’ve been looking at pictures of the smoke in NYC. This is how myths came about in long ago times. So many things can just be explained by “People didn’t know about…xyz… yet so they made up this explanation.” I often think about how much we don’t know now so we just do the best we can to make sense.

The more new people, and new follows, the more interesting my timeline is getting. I’m seeing fewer repeated echos and more original content. The bigger Spoutible gets, the more diverse my timeline, the more I am enjoying it here and depending less and less on the other. Keep them coming!

I’ve been carrying around a box of old albums from house to house for the last few decades, I haven’t owned a record player since 1988. I’m not even sure if these are still in good shape - maybe they’ve warped or been damaged. I can’t decide if it’s worth finding a turntable or letting them go.

I guessed today’s Heardle in 1 second but got a pop up that it’s shutting down on May 5. My family and I used to play every day, but have been much more sporadic lately since the kids are at school. So, my bad, but I’m still annoyed that Spotify is shutting it down.

Might be too specific a request… zillion years ago I minored in French and was at least able to read with near fluency but it’s almost all gone. Trying to get it back. Doing Duolingo and its podcast. Anyone recommend adult but lower vocabulary level books? Not ready for Camus but kids books 2 easy.

Had a mild asthma attack on a walk outside today. I’ve had one or two over my lifetime while exercising during pollen season, but this has happened a couple of times recently. Wondering if the pollen is just getting worse or if this is a post-covid new normal. We just don’t know long term effects.

Crazy wind caused a power outage. We are at 7 hours without, and the house is getting cold and my pot roast in the crock pot is dead. Thankfully the power company is working hard on restoration and it should be on by morning. Could be worse, but still no fun just after a big grocery shop day.

Just thinking back on Covid when we were kind-of sort-of locked in. Remembering that absolute rage in the comments areas of the adult paint by numbers ordering websites that were 6 months behind and the wait lists for puzzles. People lost their GD minds over craft supplies for a while. 2020, man.

There’s a quote - something like a mother is only as happy as her least happy child. Man I feel that. Not earth shattering, but kid 1 had a big growing/grown up kind of disappointment today and it’s entirely possible that I feel worse than he does. Can’t shield it all away. Tomorrow will be better!

Several high profile Twitter celebs have seemingly joined Spoutible tonight. None that I have seen have posted confirmation of their accounts on Twitter. For example, when Marc Elias moved here, he posted the handle on Twitter. I’d urge caution before you follow and boost those accounts.

Last month son had to shelter in place - a shooting at his campus. Last semester my daughter got texts from friends on lockdown at UVA. Every day she walks across her own campus and passes the memorial to the murder victims. Even absent direct violence it’s internalised trauma for all of our kids.
