ask me not
about my quest
whether I failed
or reached the stars
rather
ask me about
the dreams it inspired
the hearts
that have welcomed me
ask me
rather
of my tomorrows
why I stand now
on the shoulders
of our dreams
waiting only
to come true
ask me not
about my quest
whether I failed
or reached the stars
rather
ask me about

I tell him
no need to relate
war stories
with the slaughter
of many others
but still he stares
at the medals
as if they
are worth more
than our shared blood
but in mind
not worth the scars

Lots going on here 🐳. It’s my birthday 🎈tomorrow. I was really happy that I got to have birthday brunch with my parents, sister, my uncle visiting from Guyana and my lovely husband. We went to the Inn@ Pound Ridge by Jean - Georges in Westchester. Missing our son Miles at University.

After the last baseball practice at which I was able to jog the distance of the field with my son to encourage him today I jogged as a work out. This is a miracle for me between my ankle injury and back injury. Sometimes I can barely walk so I’m pretty goddamn proud of myself.

let's disappear
into the morning mist
& leave the day
behind
let's remember the lyrics
of passion's song
sing it loud enough
to be the thunder
in young lovers' soul
before we dance again
to the dawn

I remember
how the words
echoed
in the child within
how they
reopened
old wounds
reminding me
of failures
that have never faded
away
but now
the words
are meaningless
I'm stronger now
it's just my tears
that whisper
of my yesterdays
I remember
how the words
echoed
in the child within
how they
reopened
old wounds
reminding me

the baby cried that night
but no one seemed to care
not when the missiles
were firing over head
or felt the breeze bore
by bullets rushing by
the baby cried
& only in the morning
would we realized
where her parents
fell
the baby cried that night
but no one seemed to care

where were you
just yesterday
when I struggled
to say
I miss you
& all I could hear
was the wind
whispering goodbye
& I scream out
your name
only to hear
the echoes
of your tears
singing in my heart
knowing
it was only death
that dared
set us apart
where were you
just yesterday
when I struggled
to say
I miss you
& all I could hear
was the wind
whispering goodbye
& I scream out
your name
only to hear
the echoes
of your tears

she knew there was
no glass in the frame
no way for me to see
beyond the tip of my nose
still she smiled
pretending not to notice
as she helped about
she knew I was a poor boy
pretending to be more
just for her smile
she knew there was
no glass in the frame
no way for me to see
beyond the tip of my nose
still she smiled
pretending not to notice
as she helped about
she knew I was a poor boy
pretending to be more

First taste of rock 'n' pop that I remember, circa '65. Mom had it on an "Oldies But Goodies" album, I believe.
I first heard "Downtown" around the same time.

it was too hot to think
as I saw the crowd
rush by
too hot to realize
my voice was needed
or to think
I mattered
but as the heat broke
I realized
another right
had been lost
the cost of my silence
