A few weeks ago Matt Iglesias was on Bluesky, he was bullied off of there largely because at time *users didn't have block or mute tools* to get him out of their feeds. So I'd expect some 'liberals' & 'apoliticals' to be harassed over there too (see jenntakahashi / bestofdyingtwit on Twitter)

Well I'll just chill for several hours then try again (I mostly want to reply to some DMs & figure out how we're going to do WGA strike & possible SAG-AFTRA strike stuff not on Twitter assuming the mess on Twitter cannot be fixed)

Yeah just a laptop here, no other devices to try. I did reboot my router & MacBook Air to see if I could force that counter to reset but alas nope.
I am hearing if you use OldTwitter with Chrome or Firefox that might work.

I can't quite figure it out but another end run is if you have a different device to log in with, you can log out of it & then log in again on another. People are bouncing between phones, iPads/tablets & laptops/desktops if they have them to try. It tags the device somehow to start the read count.

By using Tweetdeck weirdly I was able to end-run some things but not others. There are rate limits to everything I just don't quite know what they are. I say weirdly because Tweetdeck's blog says it makes many more requests (calls) of Twitter's API than Twitter itself (e.g. refreshing TD = 3 calls).

There's literally a bug he introduced into Twitter when he decided to pull this rate limiting stunt (he's sort of messed with rate limits before & is doing it again) https://waxy.org/2023/07/t...

Twitter bug causes self-DDOS tied to Elon Musk's emergency blocks and rate limits: "It's amateur hour" - Waxy.org
An "amateur hour" Javascript bug is self-DDOSing Twitter, sending infinite requests from users related to — or possibly even causing — Elon Musk's "temporary emergency measures" to stop web scraping.

Okay a DDOS attack is where many many machines send non-stop requests to a target machine & tie up all its resources. This bug is like every Twitter user non-stop banging repeatedly on their keyboards, but it's not us, it's something Elon did to his own software.
TL;DR He done broke his toy.

Even if you did pay $8 / month in revenue there are still limits on how many tweets you can read in a day (6000)

Twitter's Moment of Truth Approaches - by Paris Marx
When Elon Musk took over Twitter on October 27, he was determined to transform the meaning of the blue checkmark. In particular, he was incensed it was given to journalists — people he’s increasingly turned against as coverage of him has become more critical — because he felt it gave them an exclusi..

Um, no, Facebook has a system that forces people to sign up under a 'real name' or something that sounds very like a 'real name'. And FB users are cool with 'snitching' on people on that site under pseudonyms.
When that happened to me, I left FB & the Meta companies for good
