We learned a lot over the past several days, and I promise we will take what we have learned to make Spoutible better. We identified bottlenecks that can be improved, but we also identified ways to improve engagement.

thread 2 Threaded Spouts
A month ago, people said the same thing about Bluesky when we didn't have any apps. We will not rush out an iOS app or any feature because of Threads. If a user wants to leave because our iOS app hasn't been released yet, then that person was never going to stay anyway.
Mary Bloch @Aroundblockkc
I’m afraid if you don’t get an IOS app soon, you will lose too many people to Threads.

I just went on the Bird app to tweet this. I don't know how people forgot about this.
SFDB @SFDB
This is actually the second try for Threads. The first launch crashed and burned in 2021.

"Instagram’s standalone messaging service Threads will cease to exist by the end of 2021, Meta has confirmed to TechCrunch."

Twitter may have just had its worst weekend ever, technically speaking. In response to a series of server emergencies, Elon Musk, the Twitter owner and self-professed free-speech “absolutist,” decided to limit how many tweets people can view, and how they can view them.

The June jobs report is out from payroll processor ADP — and WOW!

Private sector jobs in the U.S. increased by 497,000, blowing past expectations of 220,000. In addition, annual pay rose at a rate of 6.4%.

The official federal jobs report will be released tomorrow.

BREAKING—

Marjorie Taylor Greene has been KICKED OUT of the so-called Freedom Caucus following an internal vote.

The straw that broke the camel's back was apparently Marge's feud on the House Floor with Lauren Boebert.

To be clear, besides Bluesky, I support the other Twitter alternatives. Of course, I want people to use Spoutible, but I hope the others will succeed. The reason why I am not supporting Bluesky is because I have seen how Jack treats marginalized communities. Bluesky will be just as toxic as Twitter.

Sorry, we switched back to the old timeline. Some people saw the identical ten spouts over again. We must debug and determine why because it works fine on our staging server.
Christopher Bouzy @cbouzy
While in the middle of trying to keep our servers from crashing, we updated the timeline not to show repeat echoes.

The Explore/Search functionality will be restored in 24 to 48 hours. This temporary unavailability is due to substantial issues that negatively impacted the overall user experience. We sincerely appreciate your understanding and patience as we strive to enhance the feature's performance.

I know Spoutible isn't perfect, but look at what we have accomplished as a community in just seven months. Spoutible went from an idea discussed on Twitter, to a platform we all can proud of. The Spoutible community is a force to be reckoned with, and we are just getting started.

As a cloud guy aware of the coding and infrastructure requirements to pull this off - color me impressed @cbouzy 👏

Y’all have much to be proud of! And we’re grateful to have a civil online community where we can enjoy each other again.

It’s been a long time 🙏🏽

BREAKING: The real reason for Twitter adopting “rate limits” and view limits is that Twitter stopped paying for its Google Cloud hosting — and the service period ended June 30.

So it’s totally unclear how you’re even going to read this tweet.

In the near future maybe, but not long-term. If Elon didn't severely restrict API access, companies wouldn't have to scrape the data. We will have public API endpoints soon, that would make scraping pointless.
Anwar Edwards @JusticeBeaver
Will this site also have to contend with data scraping issues due to companies using ai to gather data?

thread 3 Threaded Spouts
It is a truth of the internet that Kpop stans are undefeated. I, for one, welcome our new overlords.
Christopher Bouzy @cbouzy
We got a huge influx of K-pop users and teens overnight. This has been an adjustment for older users, but everyone is welcome here as long as they follow the rules. Having a diverse community is important to Spoutible's growth. That said, we have identified ways to improve everyone's experience.
