One interesting way to bootstrap a new social media platform would be to use an LLM to generate lots of seemingly real activity from a variety of "users". There are a lot of fun potential applications.

In response to Andrew Cove.
I think @cbouzy generally intends to create a welcoming community for many/all, safe from harassment found elsewhere. His goals are different from the Puritans'.

Based on my replies/mentions, I'm not sure that all of the early users understand what that means in practice.

The Puritans didn't leave England to create a nation free to all religions. They went somewhere new so that they could enforce their own draconian rules on everyone else.

This is the same energy as white, monied land-owning men saying women and slaves and immigrants and natives should never get to vote.

"We were here first, and you lot are going to ruin it."

The only reason you feel heard on this platform is that you are shouting in an empty room.

The room will fill up and your voice will be drowned out. That is the nature of a growing social media platform. There will be more interesting voices. And if you want this to succeed, you have to accept it

If we left all social policy up to democratic votes, we would have no interracial or same-sex marriage. So saying "the community overwhelmingly voted for X" doesn't carry water.

I also don't think "the community voted on this" is a response of any worth. It's hugely impacted by sample bias, and it's a cop out to say that the hard policy decisions were decided by a particularly vocal set of early users.

In response to Andrew Cove.
A huge portion of the interesting content on social media comes from people who blend their personal and professional use. If you ban people from sharing their work, you're just limiting your own engagement and the growth of your own userbase.

It's not a win to say that adult creators can have Spoutible accounts as long as they follow the current TOS.

If they can't link to their work, they won't spend time here.

Imagine telling other users that they can be here, but they're not allowed to promote their work. It's a silly premise.

This reply is the exact same impulsive, reactionary energy as on the bird site, and it reflects the same attitude as that of fascists throughout history who want to control others through censorship and erasure by defining what's "acceptable".

It also misses the entire point of my original spout.
Lucy @LucySpag
If you have no other interests other than watching graphic pornography, then clearly this is not the place for you. BTW, nowhere does it say adult content creators can't have accounts here. They just can't post or link porn.

The policy in the screenshot below will likely limit my long term use of Spoutible.

The people who create adult content are very often interesting humans, whose creativity and diversity of perspectives make the world a better, more interesting place. And they'll be on other platforms.

I have tried 4 times to tweet a link to this page, which is Spoutible's Adult Nudity & Sexual Content policy, and all of those attempts have thrown errors.

The latest #SouthPark episode (S26E01) wasn't their finest, but it's worth noting that the best joke was in the credits.

Just watched episode 4 of the Last of Us. So good. Despite my (brief) tenure at Naughty Dog, I haven't played the game beyond the first hour, but I'm loving the show.

I'll be heading to the PSIA-AASI Freestyle Academy this week, and taking my snowboard instructor Freestyle Specialist exam (FS1). It's at Copper Mountain.

But my legs are feeling super sore today, so I'm about to pile a bunch of snow in the bath tub and sit in icy water until the Last of Us airs.

I've found myself more interested in Spoutible than in Hive, Post, or Mastodon. I think that's in part because @cbouzy puts a face to it, where the others are largely anonymous and faceless to me. And I appreciate his commitment to making this a space for LGBTQ+, and fighting misinformation. 1/
