I remember being so relieved when I first moved to Canada that my airport code at least included the first letter of my city’s name so I had a bit of a pneumonic edge. Because otherwise…WTF Canada?😂

TIL that some Canadians (including my mortgage broker) call homeowners’ insurance “fire insurance.” I’ve lived in this country for 15 yrs & I grew up regularly crossing the border since we were just across the Detroit River, and yet Canadian vocabulary continues to trip me up. Language is amazing.

Watching a documentary with scenes in Detroit. The main narrator is waxing poetic about how sad Detroit is and how he hopes it can have a Renaissance™️🙄. Behind him John K King Books is prominently framed. Because everyone knows that’s a symbol of Detroit’s ruin. 🤦

I just had the most lovely 90 minute phone call with my 87yo mom. She rarely talks to me that long—she has trouble following conversations on the phone. Turns out, if I only talk about (1) her youngest grandchild* & (2) people we knew before 1993, she’s good!
