It unfolded its horror in a much more light-handed and psychologically tense way (minus a swimming pool showdown that was a bit farcical). The opening did not lead me to believe that's what I was in for. Pleasantly surprised. 3/3

It is, as I'd assumed, an unfurling of the horror movie virgn/whor trope, extending it to its logical conclusion: an STI that is a literal curse. But with that shallow of a premise, it could have relied on the bluntness of the basic slasher treatment, and it didn't. 2/3

But if it was intentional, it was not successful at navigating the line between tongue-in-cheek (or, at least, self-aware) homage and earnest lack of originality. Kind of a bummer. 3/3

Felt formulaic in almost every respect (score, plot, dialogue, scares), and not in a fun meta way. It was so formulaic that I kept asking myself if it was intentionally so, because you couldn't possibly stack this many retreads on top of each other (with little else) without being aware of it. 2/3

It's as if John Hughes made a horror flick. It sounds stupid, and it kind of is, but I found myself fully invested anyway. OK, Harpoon. I see you. 3/3

Think about what Weekend at Bernie's could have been had it treated the death (and pretend reanimation) of its central character as true-to-life horrific instead of comedic, and that's pretty close to what this feels like. 2/3

One way we've tried to address this is to let people call "time out" or "new choice" whenever they're placed in a situation or scene they're not comfortable continuing. It's an insufficient solution to a deep structural problem, but it should be a bare minimum.
