Nonprofits aren't just funded by individuals.

And yet corporate support is a rounding error, compared to the rest.

This seems like a good approach -- how design thinking leads to lean startup build-measure-learn cycles, that turn into agile sprints for products

Interesting looking at 2017 vs 2021 Trump base (from PEW): Trump's core group support dropped from 80 to 42 percent. But the news makes him seem unstoppable in 2024...

Naked Shorting: When investors sell stock without actually borrowing or buying the shares.
Results in a surplus of shares.
Drives the price down.
Contributed to 1929 crash.
Illegal but still happens some today.

[This seems super harmful to markets]

WOW. This 2023 survey of belonging in the US shows that NOT belonging is one of the things that makes people the most angry about national politics.

I thought fruit of the loom had a cornucopia in its logo at one point. Another mass-misremembered thing

(but falls short of being "proof of alternate universes")

This is one of the hallmark questions that splits people in the USA along the liberal-conservative political spectrum. But did you anticipate that the progressive left would be the ones who most strongly believe they have little agency?

A feeling of agency leads to successful activism

Net population change 2020 vs 2010 US census shows that the West is growing and the Midwest and South are shrinking, outside of NC/GA/TX metro areas and most of Florida.

Colorado - where I live, is also growing a lot.

So there was this Greek astronomical calendar / clock with 37 interlocking metal gears from 200 BC, originally form Rhodes.

recreated version -- why don't history classes feature these amazing things?

Example of an #AI hype chart. I have no idea what this right graph tacked onto the left one is really measuring.

Is it saying that because AI consumes a lot of processing power, it is taking over businesses? Why not count the number of things replaced by AI instead?

I've heard from other #tech #startup folks that "real builders deploy" -- and I struggle to build and test in the real world at the rate that this reddit poll of startups says others do:

I've been at 6 companies, and none truly deployed daily.

I was looking through some of my old research and found this nugget of insight:

When evaluators ask people affected by development projects "did it succeed?" - the associated net promoter scores are 50 points higher than asking "What happened?"

Fascinating - look at how letters evolved, and which pictographs are each letter.
Also - Roman was the first serif font, because apparently, people painted it on buildings and stonecutters follow the paint, including stray brush strokes at the tips of lines.

The cost of getting to net ZERO carbon emissions in the next 20 years ($2.5 trillion) is less than the cost of not do it, as well as less than all these other things we've already spent (like covid economic subsidies)
