It would be *way* more fun and emotionally satisfying, at least in the short term. But at what cost? Like the meme of the handmaid telling her friend “but the democrats didn’t ‘earn’ my vote,” will my smug certainty that these people don’t deserve to come back from their mistakes make me 4/7-ish

That’s exactly my point. The issues we’re dealing with are existential – to me, to people I know and love and even to strangers on the internet. It is not hyperbole to say that on the individual level it’s life and death and on the institutional level, we face the potential loss of democracy 1/7-ish

I'm not suggesting that you have to become besties with Cassidy, just that it is healthier if we allow for the possibility that people can evolve in their thinking and it's in all of our best interests to make space for them if and when they do.

What's healthy about that is the other option drives people who would otherwise emerge and change their minds deeper into their soloed tribes. Civil War is a tragic waste of life and money (not just theirs, btw), and as it stands now, every election is the brink of authoritarianism. 1/2

Agreed. She's not the second coming of all that is pure and holy. She's a person. Deeply fallable like all of us. I'm glad she seems to be making better choices and I hope they continue to improve. But she could also do something horrible again tomorrow. As could I. As could you.

My guess is it would look a bit differently for everyone based on their own circumstances, but a baseline seems to be not painting everyone with "once MAGA, always MAGA" brush. People who used to be MAGA are better equipped to reach those who still are. 1/2

No, what i look like and what policies will or won't kill or impoverish me are not relevant to my previous statement. Dropping 30-50% of the country off a cliff and dusting off our hands simply isn't a practical way forward. Again, anger is understandable. I get it, because I feel it.

I empathize with your anger and frustration. I will just say that the healthiest way I can see to move forward to a better future is to allow space for people who used to be full aboard the Trump/MAGA train to realize they were wrong and change course.

I saw her interview with Maddow. She's still a republican, but she doesn't feel that she and MAGA occupy the same party. She's not still a supporter of trump and she's hoping that enough of the party will snap out of it before it entirely self-immolates. I doubt they will, but she's not MAGA.

I hadn't been near one since I was a kid, and last year I went in and discovered they stopped making the cinnamon raisin biscuit (from the look I got, I'm guessing they haven't had it for a long time.) No reason to go back now. 🙃🤷♀️

I mean, I can do that on a loop. I was once in the middle of laying tile in the bathroom, got up to fetch a tool I needed from the workshop. Forgot my errand when I got to the kitchen, started to tidy the kitchen, then started to make a snack, then laundry. Took 20 minutes to remember the tile.
