There are definitely parts to enjoy. Would I recast a few roles, sure...but I do think Cara Delavigne shone in this.

Oh, this film is a visual gem. I truly enjoyed it, but I can see how people didn't...because it's not The Fifth Element. Take Valerian as its own thing, and there's a good level of enjoyment.

It definitely has a "rich Asylum" feel, but I think that's what I like about it. It's unashamedly over-the-top in its premise, doesn't shy away from that and almost revels in it. It's pure disaster fun.

I've read quite a few Preston and Child books too, so I was curious to see how they handled Agent Pendergast. They...um... didn't. 😂

It's funny, because having read the book first, I was prepared to be let down. I wasn't.

I get that. I just look at as "this artists and I don't see eye to eye...that's okay, song X is still a banger."

It's like with movies too...actor can be a total jackass, but they nailed a role. (also, remembering that it's fictional characters in the film helps too. hahaha)

Lacuna Coil is definitely good, as is Amaranthe.

Within Temptation are such a great band...between them and Beyond The Black, some amazing songs.

I just like music too much to turn my back on the songs I love. 🙂

I agree that their initial response was...a touch much. That said, I've always been one to separate the song from the artist in those situations. Maybe it's the musician in me, but the song didn't do anything bad. You can disagree with the artists and still like the art.

There aren't many songs that fit in every performance arena. This song does. My Immortal from Evanesence would also fit that bill as well.

No matter the performer or arena, the song speaks volumes.

Exactly. That's why on the show, we go through every studio album. In many cases, there are albums I didn't even know existed, and I'm always up for hearing new stuff. It also helps reveal what about an artist speaks to the listener.

The song works on so many levels. It was almost made for artistic interpretive performance.

Through The Never is such a great song...the whole album is great, and Bob Rock really found a way to thicken the sound for the band.

That has to be hard...you do all these roles based on the perception of what you play well, and then when you try to branch out, there's bound to be that trepidation. And the audience also seemingly WANTS people to be the same character...like watching HOTD expecting Matt Smith to be The Doctor.

Obvious self-conscious...first thing that comes to mind is Wiley Wiggins in dazed And Confused (guy who played Mitch).

Also, relying on physical actions to hide uncomfortable non-talking moments.
