Another in an increasingly erratic posting series. Anchored in Winter Cove, Saturna Island, wondering if there is something we should know about all that stuff in the sky.

A normally crowded harbour, in the off-season. It's nice to be able to take the boat out for an overnight. Princess Bay on Portland Island, a great hike an hour from our home dock. October, but warm. The dinghy dock has been removed for the winter and the ramp is raised.

Another part of a series, what I call "water totems". This is Melanie Cove, part of Prideaux Haven. It's a sanctuary.

Part of a series, at irregular intervals. Princess Louisa Inlet, on the BC mainland coast. Your heartbeat slows as soon as you enter through the rapids.

Another favourite anchorage, and a serendipitous picture. Winter Cove, looking out Boat Pass to somewhere in Washington state.

A few years ago at a small landing in Okeover Inlet. At the end of the tourist season, everyone just wanted to go home.

One of the major dangers in BC waters are deadheads - logs that float vertically with the top awash or just above the water. They can hole a boat instantly. This one's been tagged and dragged into shallow water.

This is one of the reasons I'm sometimes nervous night sailing. You never know what has washed down into the ocean. Moonless nights are the worst.

In the wonderful wet temperate rainforest. It's amazing how much water can come down in one day. When it lets up, we're on the move.

There's a wonderful place on the Sunshine Coast called "Ballet Bay", on Nelson Island. We have been going there for many years, it's a great place to hole up in when there's bad weather. In nice weather, it's outstanding. We relax there.

On the west coast of Vancouver Island, we anchored in a shallow bay off Nootka Sound, behind Bodega Island. The nearby forest had been burned out a while back, and the fog/clouds were thick. Just before the sun went behind the hills, I got this shot.

Zeballos, way up at the far end of Esperanza Inlet on the west coast of Vancouver Island. Fascinating topography around here, very different from the rest of the island, or from anything we have seen before. Very friendly and funky town.

Another awe-inspiring boating destination is Princess Louisa Inlet, at the very top of Jervis Inlet on the BC mainland. We have a special location with three waterfalls. We are tied to shore 90 feet off our stern while we're anchored in 120 feet of water. #BC #Photography .

It's hard to show the scale of landscapes without a reference point. This was taken in Desolation Sound, at the top of the Salish Sea. It makes you feel very small.

More from the west coast of Vancouver Island. Dixie Cove is also in Kyuquot Sound, and again we were the only ones there. I could almost pretend those were palm trees.

We have had a lot of forest fires around the last few years, and it can really be extreme smoke as a result. Makes for some moody photographs, but unpleasant on the lungs and eyes. This is Winter Cove on Saturna Island. An excellent all-weather anchorage.

Less than an hour from our dock, Sidney Spit Marine Park is a wonderful walk at low tide. Fine sand, driftwood, and vistas. Mt. Baker, in the US, is in the background.

On our trip around Vancouver Island a few years ago, we saw so many beautiful places with nobody else around. Nobody else's noise. It was magical. This is an anchorage called Blue Lips Cove, in Kyuquot Sound.

Buccaneer Bay on the Thormanby Islands. Excellent protection in a south wind. Zero protection from the north. The water gets up to swimmable temperatures in summer, my wife says. I'll believe her, I don't need to find out myself.

One of our favourite places is the Octopus Islands, at the north end of Quadra Island. It's a wonderful anchorage, very calm most of the time. You have to go through at least one set of rapids to get there, timing the tidal gates is essential. #BC #Photography
