I free camped in a van, all over the Western US for 5 years. It was so quiet! Coming back to the city noise was hard.

I wrote a short story about a virus and subsequent nuclear war that wipes out most of humanity and that the silence would one of the most noticeable aspects.

A great example of this was the beginning weeks of the pandemic lockdown -- the quiet was WONDERFUL!

(sorry about shouting there)

Hearing just the sounds of nature instead of noise of "civilization" really is difficult now, but it was nice while it lasted
