Abortion rights advocates got abortion rights on the ballot for this fall. Currently, it will pass with just 50% +1 votes.

Republicans are moving the goal posts.

They put issue 1 on the ballot for for August 8th to raise the threshold to pass to 60%.

So 40% can defeat abortion rights this fall.

Ohio Republicans are trying to make it harder for voters to pass an amendment to the state constitution that would protect abortion access. Currently, any vote above 50%+1 and we can pass it. Issue 1 is an attempt to require an amendment have 60%+1. Abortion support polls at around 56%.

Also, state Rep. Brian Stewart (R-bad person/liar) is mocking "no" voters by saying "Wait until Republicans put stuff you hate on the ballot & it only needs 50%+1." A. That stuff is unpopular. B. Amendments put on the ballot by the radical right legislature will still only need 50%+1 regardless.

Just googled it because I wondered the same thing. Evidently it will ask voters if it should be harder to amend their constitution. Is that correct Ohioans?

specifically because abortion rights advocates got enought signatures to vote on it in the fall, Republicans are trying to move the goal posts for it to pass and allow 40% of Ohioans to block it.
